LGBTQI+ Seminar Series
The Multicultural Communities Council of WA (MCCWA) have developed a free seminar series which service providers can use to improve their capacity to deliver inclusive, safe, and effective care for people from CaLD and LGBTQI+ backgrounds. The seminar series consists of recorded presentations delivered at in-person workshops organised by MCCWA.

1) Sex & Gender
Presented by Dr Kaz Bland MCCWA had the privilege of hearing from Dr Kaz Bland discuss the topic of ‘Sex & Gender’ during the inaugural LGBTQI+ Affirmative Training Workshop on the 3rd of February. The wonderful presentation consisted of an Q&A session as well as an open forum with attendees touching base on the current state and potential areas of improvement in regards to available services for members in the the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) and LGBTQI+ communities. A special thank you to Dr Kaz Bland and the participants who engaged in the workshop. |

2) Peer Support & Community Connection for LGBTQIA+ & CaLD Individuals
Presented by Bridge Truell On the 27th of March, the Multicultural Communities Council of Western Australia hosted its second LGBTQI+ Affirmative training workshop in the series which consisted of insightful perspectives from Curtin Master’s of Sexology, Bridge Truell. The workshop included an open forum with attendees which discussed inclusive techniques and methods which could be incorporated into the workplace, as well as brainstorming how service providers can support CaLD & LGBTQI+ members. Thank you to Bridge Truell for an insightful and informative presentation. |

3) Reconciling Differences
Presented by Dr Kaz Bland Dr Kaz Bland returned on the 27th of March to present a deep dive into the complex construct of reconciling differences in perspectives and values. |

4) LGBTQIA+ Displacement
Presented by Misty Farquhar OAM MCCWA celebrated Refugee Week 2023 by hosting a symposium with the overarching theme of “Finding Freedom: Refugee Mental Health and Inclusion”. The symposium was attended by over 85+ service providers and community leaders, and heard from a range of legal, clinical societal and LGBTQI+ perspectives on the complex impacts the refugee experience has on mental health. Of these presentations, MCCWA were delighted to have heard from Mx. Misty Farquhar OAM and their informative speech about the challenges and difficulties of LGBTQI+ members in today’s age. |
